But for years, I usually fill a book drive with the data I can unload my heart allows me to dissect and analyze all kinds of things. And the figures are final, except the Telegraph when I realized the same time in 2009, mounted on the other I lost a few minutes. And I think it would have been worse without the knowledge of the cyclo that I accumulated during my recent entries.
Back at home I had less than a fortnight for the last race of the season: L'Etape du Tour. Two weeks when I did that three times out. Two very cool during the week and a flat out weekend with friends (Something, surely, they have much appreciated ;-)
In the book I told you there was another but planning on leaving the Marmotte, I preferred to focus on recovery because I might not lose shape but, instead, the effects of fatigue could be harmful.
And the day came from Step (open early summer (a fact that is important psychologically). It was the third and final cyclo of the season and I wanted to do it without any pressure and, surprise, I got the rank of my life on a test of this type: 2634 / 10 000 (still far from Contador, as you can see ;-).
that day, without explanation, I was in great shape. I have not had any digestive problems, no muscle problem and I started to feel tired just four miles from the finish (on top of the Tourmalet). I thought a lot about the causes of such a "success" and I think that, in order, are:
- Of course, training.
- The management of the fifteen days preceding this cyclo: Mid-gas and privileging recovery, which allowed me to overcompensation.
- Cyclo was the third of the season and I realized that it was only the third I started to have "good" feelings.
- I switched brands of energy products (attention! That it's too easy ;-) and in addition, I have managed food. I forced myself to eat every three quarters of an hour.
Finally, as you can imagine, from this day (and after a week of vacation with family without touching the bike) my outputs (Road or MTB) were much less structured. Now the only thing to emphasize was the pleasure component (which does suffer a bit ;-). And that was the norm until October when I programmed a light cycle of PMA and sill to rest during the first two weeks of November. Conclusion: In view of my sensations on the bike (after the Etape du Tour), I think I can say that the training program has worked well. Less than I expected, but after nearly twenty years of cycling in the legs, I do not think I could ask for much more. Undoubtedly, someone who starts and / or returns a lot more to gain.
But as you noted, the training is not enough to successfully finish in "good" condition (everything is on a cyclo ;-) so hard that the Three Balls and Groundhog (regardless of classification). Food, fatigue before the race and, especially, escalation factors are also very important not to overlook.
is why in 2011 I will introduce three changes to my program:
- the first to start a little earlier (it is already done) to separate the core sessions and sessions of strength, although it is very hard (from a psychological standpoint) leave from their friends not to exceed the pace than I expected.
- The second, better manage power for many weeks to take advantage of high intensity and, if possible, reach the ideal weight. I hope the new book by Chema Arguedas coming out this Christmas in Spain will help me as much as the other training.
- The third, schedule cyclos "approach" goals for next season (Les Copains and the Etape du Tour). In a progressive requirement for now I expected the following: The Velostar (next to the house) on 1 May, Time to mid-May and the Time-Megeve Mt.Blanc-to mid-June.
Well, as you know, I just started the new season and, for now, I have a better level until January (I can see by comparing the results of my meetings Model Driving my book). Does that mean I'm in better shape this summer? C'es too early to say, circumstances can change a lot ...
And finally, I remind you that the purpose of these two articles was to to summarize (as objective as possible) with my results during this first year I applied a structured training. Consciously and that the message be more clear I did not want to talk about the pleasure of riding a bike. I also had AC in, and much, (even if sometimes it is a bit masochistic ;-).
I'll tell you about by Christmas ... Good
Route
